More new hotels opened in 2010 in and around Luxembourg City The many new hotels that recently opened in Luxembourg City confirm the Grand Duchy’s success as both a business and a leisure destination. Suite Novotel ![]() After having opened in 2008 a second Sofitel and a second Novotel in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the French hotel chain ACCOR inaugurated end of June 2010 its first “Suite Novotel” across the street from the Philharmonie in Luxembourg City. This first All-Suite Novotel in Europe offers 110 well appointed suites of 30M². Premium Légère Hotel Luxembourg ![]() It’s in Luxembourg that the young German hotel chain "Premium Légère" decided to open their first hotel end of May 2010. Modern design and contemporary architecture are characteristic for this hotel with 156 “studio design” rooms offering stunning open bathroom retreats and luxurious kingsize beds. Divided into 135 standard rooms (25 square meters), 11 residence studios (37 square meters) and 10 Gellary suites (53 square meters, with kitchenette), they all offer air-conditioning, WLAN, Flat screens and HSIA. The elegant restaurant CUBE offers high-quality international and regional cuisine. The comfortable atmosphere of the lounge, bar and the outdoor terrace invite to linger. The geographic location of the hotel in Munsbach is convenient: both the Luxembourg Wine Road and Luxembourg City can be reached in a 10 to 15 minutes’ drive. More information: www.legerehotels.com. Melia Luxembourg ![]() The Spanish hotel chain MELIA also chose Luxembourg in June 2009 for its first hotel ever in the Benelux. The design hotel has an extraordinary location between two major contemporary buildings: the Philharmonie, designed by French architect Christian de Portzamparc, and the Museum of Modern Art (MUDAM), designed by Ieoh Ming Pei, the architect of the Louvre Pyramid. Most of the 161 rooms offer a stunning view over the MUDAM, the “Place de L’Europe” and the Old Town which is on UNESCO’s list of World Cultural Heritage. More information: www.solmelia.com. A charming 28-room design hotel was opened in May 2010 in the heart of Luxembourg City. The hotel is an architectural ensemble composed by 7 buildings, the oldest of which dates back to the 18th century and housed a former printing house. Behind the facade, the visitor discovers cozy courtyards and terraces. The chef Alain Straub, who worked in renowned restaurants before, such as Hotel Le Royal in Luxembourg, the Juana in Juan-les-Pins or at the formerly starred L’Agath of chef Franky Steichen (who retired in 2009), pampers his guests in two restaurants: - the elegant “La Cristallerie” (for a maximum 40 guests) on the 1st floor and - the fancy Brasserie Plëss with its outdoor terrace The voulted cellars can be used for smaller functions. The Seven Hotel (in Esch-sur-Alzette) ![]() Located only 15 km south of Luxembourg City, on the wooded hill “Galgenberg” overlooking Luxembourg’s second city, Esch-sur-Alzette, “The Seven Hotel” opened its doors recently. It is another top luxury small hotel, surrounded by the large municipal park. The hotel offers 14 tastefully designed non-smoking rooms and a top-floor suite on the 7th floor offering an even more stunning view over the Galgenberg park and over the city of Esch-sur-Alzette. The rooms’ design makes the difference of the hospitality of The Seven Hotel.: each detail, from the tapestry to the curtains, from the furniture to the colours of the accessories, is designed. The completely refurbished hotel offers 9 non-smoking rooms with contemporary furniture, comfortable Simonis-mattresses, smooth Beltrami-bedding, free wifi and anti-allergic parquet. Seven rooms even have a balcony. No elevator. The bar and restaurant range among the trendy addresses in town. The international cuisine is based on fresh products of the season. The bar (open from 7 AM to 1 AM) offers a menu for the light hunger from noon through 11 PM. The restaurant is open at lunch-time and from 7 PM to 11 PM.
